Westfield Century City is two-level, 1.3 million-square-foot outdoor shopping mall in the Century City commercial district. Thousands of people visit there to shop, work, and eat. Currently, there are 57 spots where customers can enjoy food, and 31 of them offer takeout options. That’s more than half. But do you know how many parking spots they have for food pickup? 3. Out of 5,000 parking spots available. Current parking situation at Westfield Century City makes it hard for mall visitors to drive there - especially those who just want to come pick up food and leave. Statistics on remote workers reveal that more than 4.7 million people work remotely at least half the time in the United States, and for some of them its hard to make lunch at home every day. At the same time, it is also hard to go pick up food in a limited time, especially when they it takes unexpectedly long time for them to do so. We wondered, how might we make the parking experience less stressful, overwhelming, and time-consuming for Westfield Century City visitors picking up food? How can we make sure that food orders will be hot and ready the moment the user walks in the door?
Even though Westfield City mall has become an urban oasis in Los Angeles, through interviews and research, we discovered that Westfield Century City has critical problems when it comes to their parking situation. 27.2% of their Yelp reviews are 1 and 2-star: Almost all of them are complaining about how difficult and time-consuming it is to just find a spot to park, and how confusing their way-finding system is. One of the interviewees told us that even though Westfield Century City mall is the closest location where she can get her favorite food, but she would rather avoid the mall and drive somewhere else to get food because she gets overstimulated by the parking situation. She also told us that it's simply "not worth it" to deal with the parking situation there.
Our solution was Mapply, a smart map management app to help users get from point A to B the quickest way, with the least amount of apps to go through. With API integrations and in-app browsers, users never have to leave the app in order to complete their errand in the most efficient and quickest way possible.
