Red Bull Media is an award-winning, multi-platform global media company. They also happen to be our direct neighbor! We teamed up to design and develop a project to explore how personalization creates community.

This semester’s design challenge asked students to:

“Create new and engaging connections with young consumers, more often in a mobile-native experience with Red Bull's current and new touchpoints.“

Thought starters included:

Providing Value

How can Red Bull develop a native mobile or wearable app that provides value for our audiences?

Growth and Engagement

Where and how can Red Bull grow and engage audiences more often?

Our Process

The Design Challenge asked IxD students to examine this design challenge through three distinct phases:

Research Phase

In this phase, students employed a variety of primary and secondary research methods and tactics including interviews of participants and domain experts as well as competitor analysis and heuristic evaluations of the Red Bull brand and app.

Prototype Phase

Based on an insight or question raised during the initial research phase, students create prototypes to test and retest with users.

Presentation Phase

In this final phase, students learn to summarize and tell compelling stories of their work to-date as a way to engage Red Bull stakeholders.
