Social Pandemic Hub

Project Description

A home-scale projector equipped with a camera, controller and virtual games that will be used as a life-size immersive social platform to facilitate interactions between people around the world.

Problem

We created this product from the prompt question of “How might we ease social isolation in a way that emulated real-life social gatherings?”. We had a couple of different challenges. One was that we weren't sure how to execute the build of the hi-fi prototype. We decided to make it out of wood to provide a prototype that would have the proper scare and weight of the real product.

Insights

Having this prompt and creating during the beginning of the Covid-19 Pandemic really helped us to create a product that would help a common issue that a lot of people were facing. Which was the lack of human interaction. We had many successes such as creating the HI-FI prototype. When creating the prototype we made. And the seamless UI that goes with the product. Testing out and mocking up the Hub was a necessary task to not only test with users but to also help us with visualizing the product in our own environments.

Solutions

Creating an IOT device that provided a fraction of what people experienced before social distance mandates allowed us to envision communication in a whole new way. Along with the specifics of how the Hub would work, creating color waves, and constructing this prototype we were able to physically visualize what our concept would look like off of our sketches and into the physical space.
